A couple of days ago a peer of mine posted this quote

This inspiring quote was misconstrued as an opportunity to speak out against not only black history month, but every other cultural holiday that is celebrated in the United States. Although I must admit I to was torn on where I stood as far as devoting a month to one culture or race. Yet one can not deny the many injustices that have occurred and the erasing of not just Black but all history. I believe it is very important that we reflect on historic events that before the abolition of slavery and through out the civil rights movement would have been considered unimportant because of any tie to a person of color or of the female gender. My eyes are now opened to the necessity of Black history month. In reply to an email asking why "Whites "are not allowed or afforded the same opportunities to celebrate their race, Mrs.Sands responds ever so tastefully

"This is a SERIOUS sign of ignorance! No matter how many commemorative "days" other races have, inequality STILL exists! For years, whites were the only race given any credible notice for historical endeavors. History tells us that enslaved African and Native Americans have invested pain anguish spiritual, mental and physical rape- so, if they decide to take pride in their race and acknowledge those instrumental in their freedom how can any informed individual dispute it? How can you complain about not getting a slice of cake when you own the bakery? Whites have the prestige, the power, respect and every OTHER holiday on the calendar. Since you are so cerned with being considered a racists; here are some indications that will help you identify.

"You may be considered a racist IF : Every time you hear a black person talk about race, you complain about how black people need to stop talking about race.,IF whenever any race other than your own pays homage to their race, you imagine it's part of some big ploy to undermine you and steal power from your race. IF you think that only white people are allowed to defend themselves because you're sick of white people being the only group who can't defend themselves. ( I guess lynching and racial profiling doesn't count); IF you complain that non-whites have special advantages that are denied to white people;IF you think it's time for you and your white cohorts to stand-up against the racist minorities attacking you; IF you have to keep telling people you're not a racist. IF it angers you to hear any other race try to lift their race. IF when hearing a black person complain about racists, you immediately assume he's talking about you. At the end of the day, "

people who aren't particularly racist, but still refuse to acknowledge the racial divides that clearly still exist are racists in denial. I suggest you trace your roots, find out where you're REALLY from and raise your flag... after all there is only one type of Native American!"

Mrs. Sands is obviously educated and responded with her intellect rater than perpetuate the ignorance that so many people still feel obligated to regurgitate. Americans must recall that almost every racial advocated group like the black chamber of commerce or even the invention of the Miss Black America beauty pageant was created in times of segregation where blacks and other minorities where not allowed to participate or where even recognized as contributing members of society. We must recall these events not to draw up the past but shed some light that the invention of black history month would have never been necessary if at one point or another blacks and other minorities had not been considered more so property than human beings. Pivotal historic figures would have never been necessary had there not been a struggle between races, historic figures such as Malcolm X , Rosa Parks, Medger Evers, and of course Martin Luther King jr. In school we learn that every action has an equal if not greater reaction, we can say that slavery and the civil rights movement where the actions that caused the reaction of black history month or Cezar Chavez day.

Let us not forget that all national holidays are approved by congress and of course the president, any and all responsibility for the creation of these Holidays or commemorative months are that of the registered voters. Apparently enough of America would like to recognize these days and or months ,this is the way of a democratic government we admire and more often than not respect. I hope that those that beg the question "why is there a black history month?" do a bit of research and find that there is a lot of history that school books forget or forgot to mention.

This idea hit me in the face when we where discussing non governmental organizations in my contemporary global issues class, BAM " what we need is an intellectual revolution"! my poetry speaks about my plight to awaken the developed world to first and for most to the atrocities that occur not only with in the confines of this sovereign nation but all across the globe. So I designed some posters ,stickers, and buttons. Once printed I will sell each product half the proceeds will go to the perpetuation of the idea and the other half will go to an international charity the first proceeds will be donated to a locally based organization that helps refugees and immigrants. One of my cousins posted something on his facebook status and it really struck a chord with me and I wanted to share and ask for support. I did respond as respectful as I could. He is one of my cousins and is in the military, and was just deployed this year. Only support and no bad talking, I don't want to fight hate with hate, just erase it all together. Thanks!

Cousins Status: ive seen a few post about people wearing purple to show support for people who have commted suicide for gay abuse, id aprreciate if people wore yellow to show support for those losing there lives so those comitting suicde have the freedom to choose to be gay

Me: I support you and the military and am very grateful for what ya'll are doing, Thank you! BUT, we were just asking for support for one day...like the military have certain days (Veterans Day and Memorial Day) although I support both causes everyday. And freedom to be gay doesn't exist (that is the same as saying I have the freedom to be male or to have two arms) and it isn't a choice. No hard feelings, just educating. Love you cuz!

Cousin: ment no offence cuz love you to, and never said there was anything wrong with it. just like you and some my other friends want support and ask for it, so do we. and im asking for it . and thats your opion i think it is a choice jus as being straight is a choice. it in no way can be compared to what you are born with. where else beisdes america can gays be legaly married? .educate yourself before you try and educate others. and realize not everyone shares the same opions, and opions are just opions not facts.

Cousin: alot of troops have comited suicide for various reasons and no body asked for support for them or there familys

Me: Being gay and wanting gay marriage are completely different things. COMPLETELY! And its only in 5 states, one federal district, and one indian tribe in America. There are ten other countries where same sex marriage is recognized by the WHOLE country, Argentina, Sweden, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Iceland, South Africa, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Norway. Along with three other countries where it is recognized by portions. Believe me, I am educated. It is my opinion and I wouldn't want to force anyone to accept it, only respect it. If it is a choice for some, fine, but it wasn't mine, I don't understand why anyone would choose to live a life of ridicule, bullying, and hardship. I didn't. But I do respect your opinions and I hope this doesn't effect us. You're family and I will love you regardless of what you think. I will wear a yellow shirt today btw.

Cousin: your makeing more out of this than it is. apparently its only ok to ask for support if its convient for your cause but others arent asking for support for the same cause as you than you have to make it about you. and jus the same as SOME other countries allow it others are completely against it.

Cousin: i do see it as one of our many freedoms, and i didnt wanna go here but i am, i dont think people killing themsleves over making a CHOICE to be openly gay and being harraset for it, knowing that not everyone is ok with it and that they may be picked on an abused for it need support. nobody asked for a day of support for straight kids who have commited suicde because they were being bullied and harrassed

  I just want to say that I love you... and while I understand your cousin's point... he very obviously missed the whole point of wearing the purple t-shirts... it was my understanding that they were meant to show solidarity against bullying and hate... IN GENERAL... now while i agree that one of the reasons the whole thing was put togehter... was the recent incident with that young man who was outed by his roommate and some other tools... but bullying is a prevalent problem all across America and actually it knows no boundaries... sexual preference... gender... age... race... it affects everyone... hate is never the answer... and its never justified... I don't believe that you have to agree to disagree with your cousin on this; making your cousin less uncomfortable about open bigotry isn't your responsibility. If someone doesn't support me, I don't support them. These types of views are dangerous, and they signal to others that it's somehow OK to be a bigot if the bigotry is called "opinion." Hitler's "opinion" about those of the Jewish faith wasn't OK. The Ku Klux Klan's "opinion" about African-Americans is not OK. Our founding fathers' "opinions" about women and slaves were not OK. And calling something an "opinion" doesn't absolve the opinion-holder of responsibility for the opinion or its consequences.
  
  I'm sorry you had to deal with this. Too many teenagers have killed themselves because of people with these same types of "opinions," and too many others have come dangerously close. Your cousin should be ashamed.

  i think that your points were valid, as some of his were too. the thing is we all get to choose the causes we support and sometimes those causes ask us to do things, like wear purple, to show that we support them. i am against bullying pretty much in any way, and you know that i support my gays :) but i also support the military. i am proud to be a member of the HUMAN rights campaign, which is trying to make everyone have the same rights, what our military fights to protect on a daily basis. but you guys will have to agree to disagree, simply because he seems to be quite judgmental and closed minded. you stay tolerant and let your voice be heard, that's what SPIRIT is all about! i love you friend and i would have written with yellow paint on my purple shirt if i'd known that it would stop the madness ;)

  I think you said everything that needs to be said to him in a totally appropriate way. I don't think supporting the troops and PTSD awareness were ever the point of his status; like you said, he wanted to make something that wasn't about him about him. He meant to say that promoting awareness of gay suicides wasn't a worthy cause. You don't need to demean one cause to legitimize another. If he really wanted to promote awareness about homecoming troops and their wellness, he would have left the the purple shirts out of it.

  I support the troops I have several members of my family and friends in the military. What is even more amazing is one of those friends is gay .... so i would channel that person right now because im sure they are wearing a purple shirt!

Ok so Charlie and I go way back... his mom was actually my kindergarden teacher ! We kinda lost contact through the year and reconnected a few months ago on face book. He has really begun to master the art of comedy and film and i'm happy to say I know this kid ! So when he directs the next major motion picture I can tell every one I know "I went to school with him!" This is just one of a few funny videos and short films Charlie and his friends have made . This video is amazing ! A flood if emotion and information and really just gives you this sense of urgency.

I believe this retro feel much like fashion has come about before in the seventies early eighties. Think about it, when it comes to atomic bombs we have no say so. Its a hand full of men that have control over weather or not to completely alter history with the touch of a button... how horrifying is that? we need to establish our selves as the editors of our own history connect back with the earth and back with each other. why wait till 2012 when in reality one wrong political move today could mean the end of the world tomorrow . This is not how our lives should be decided or lived the term moderation in modern society had really seemed to evade our children ... feast of famine... wake up open your eyes and really see whats going on ....

Back in the day they use to call it treason ..

people were sent to death for using reason ,

it seemed that thinking out side the box might mean that you would soon end up in one.

conservative judges like Pharisees fail to see that

rebellion is the synonym for rebirth ,

and it is only through questioning that we are to arrive upon truth.

Imagine the repercussions of a world that was never round,

of a place where your feet ever left the ground.

Where Are You?

I was there, when no one else was.
I was there when people laughed, in your face.
I was there when you needed a shoulder, to cry on.
I was there when you needed a hand, to lift you up.
I was there with a towel, when people spit on you.
I was there when you were broke, to put you back together
I was there when it seemed like everyone else walked out on you, and showed you I’m still here.
I was there when men broke you heart, to tell you there is more out there.
I was there when females was fake with you, and kept it real.
I was there for you when people lied to you, and told you the truth.
I was there when you had nightmares, to bring you back to reality.

I was once told sometimes God brings people into your life that are “seasonal friends” and they are only there for the season. God also brings people into your life for a reason. That reason maybe to show you that you don’t need people like that in your life….don’t be a seasonal friend. Be someone that other people can count on. My dream last night was Insane! This year in particular I have had more end of the world dreams than ever before. They are more intense and realistic every time.

Last night the dream started out with six random people I have never seed before and myself walking into an entrance underground. Then its like a flash and we are all standing in a cave wondering how we got there looking around there was one girl with shocking red hair who the other people with us where talking about asking why she was here with us?. All through out this dream I have this crazy sense of urgency then like a gun went off we start to run and while im running maps and blueprints are flashing in my head of cubicles that we are suppose to put objects in to protect them built of stone, and im caring two packages of a white substance and my job is to hide them. while this is all going on the other people with me are talking about this ancient fog that is going to appear and in this fog are evil people and creatures that are trying to get our packages , i find two great hiding spaces right next to each other right after i shut the stone door behind me the fog begins to arrive and I prepare to fight for my life . It seemed that some of the other people in particular this man who is explaining every thing as it was happening have Done this before . I realize this is hard to understand but im really just recording this dream so i can hope to continue it .

This guy happens to be one of my brothers in the social club I am in MAKONA "the men's club" and by a stroke of amazing luck he also happens to have the best sense os style in the club as well, this kid is a natural in front of the camera and I do believe he has a future in modeling if he were to choose to pursue it! He also is staring to take pictures and hopefully he will be featured on here as an artist soon rather then my best male model ... thanks matt !

I found this guy on the road to el paso and just had to pull over to photograph him, the rural setting was a beautiful background for this industrial zombie. Desolate and abandoned he gives a cold feeling to a hot texas climate.

So I kind of introduced Curtis in my first posting giving him thanks for inspiration and support. Talk about someone who at least with in the last year has made tremendous strides in becoming a better writer and poet he has really just set the bar really high for me to reach but please believe i'm still holding on to it . Scratching coughs bleed the infection of contagious verses
Claimed in aneurysms, ideas lie among beds of moving herses

In the hands of time seeds drenched in greatness dwell on sleep
Eyes light coals burning smiles as shimmers claim steps that creep

Faces provoked by the word 'pre' bark at the sight in peripheral's vision
Screeches claim the lives of mundane on eves of Death's mission

Internal mechanisms crank the cogs of instincts of purity's humanity
Blueprints blur truth leaving open the pouring of what is sanity?

Upon hushes, retinas cringe with images of success not grown
Excuses blossoms out a surrounding garden of hatred left unknown

Curses lie at unstoppable feet walking blindly past visions of different
Stomachs lurch vomited unhappiness upon boxes engraved with sent

Is it within suffocated pillows dreams scream as clocks rape their ambition?

art history ,our history.

Place: Art history class...

In art history class we discovered that in pre historic times art was left on cavern walls this of corse was not new information (one would hope) what was new ,was the observation of prehistoric self worth and how homo sapiens viewed them selves in relation to animals.

prehistoric man/woman seemed to hold nature in a much higher regard than he/she might hold themselves. My evidence to support this theory is how these wall markings where laid out and composed. Animals where full figured and really more of the subject of each piece of art; drawn in detail, while man was a simple stick figure. I believe we saw and found God in nature prior to considering ourselves as God like. It really allows you to meditate on what the earth and nature meant to humans back then, like wise should cause you to recall the worth of our planet and it resources. There is nothing that is created that in one fashion or another was taken from the earth either the materials used to make it directly or the few used to power it. I am a firm believe in learning from the past I believe this is a perfect example of doing so.

This piece was the fist poem I put to music along with photos describing each line or emotion I was trying to convey . This poem actually started out as two very different pieces and I was commissioned by my friend Joonbug (owner of fresh kaufee) to create a pice that is relevant to the world and something I could read at his show that would also be relevant to fresh kaufee.

So I looked to kaufee as a motivator to open our eyes and witness issues that I believe society as a whole just deals with rather than meeting these issues head on and facing them .

A familiar setting due to my failure to complete the course my freshman year of college , I blame the large amount of immaturity still lingering in my system from high school." Any who " the substance in the class seems to have a whole new meaning to me recently.

With out really intentionally meaning to do so I seem to have adopted a much more poetic and artistic view point on every day subjects ,well more than usual at least. For example we discussed the organization of life today. And how for some odd reason I noticed that cells behave very much like you and I in that each cell has a purpose and that cell can work with other cells to complete a larger purpose, different species of cells cohabiting would be called a community...

Im sure you are following that cells seem to echo the same "basic organization" (and I use the term origination loosely I find life to be very contrary ) that we use in our society.

I found one piece of information to be quite profound all be it obvious to many people; the notion that a single celled organism can bring a multicellular organism to its knees pushing it to the brink if not death... so why is it that we have yet to discover and harnessed this incredible potential? Not so much the ability to destroy but really come to understand the power and potential of one person vs. millions of people.

I believe to many times we question ourselves and diminish our own capabilities removing the very thought from our head that "I one person can make a dramatic change in the world around me". This I am afraid is our biggest enemy ...self doubt. How many time have you stopped yourself from changing your behavior using the excuses "just because I do it doesn't mean everyone else will" or "just me changing my habit will not benifit anyone else" how about the classic "I really just dont want to be the only one doing it ..."

It is here that I say to humanity we need to be more selfish, more conceded in our ability to persuade people unintentionally the more we care about bettering ourselves the more people around you will begin to notice the behaviors and neglected areas in their life that need addressing . All you have to do is cause someone around you to question what they do and why, its the provoking of thought that leads to change more so than change itself. Thought is the catalyst for change and with out it we are stagnant .

I hope this post helps you understand your potential and lets you know you could be changing the world and not ever know .....

I find it quite interesting that this poet didn't think I liked her when we first meet funny thing is I felt the same way toward her ! we recently discovered a mutual passion for poetry and since then we discuss our literature constantly . Destiny has a gift for tangible emotion and powerful sense of fellings in each of her poems which is an issue for some authors. She has a natural sense of rhythm and the use of repetition in her work I believe is just enough to tie the piece together,she has amazing potential I pray she continues to write !

JOON BUG (Lenworth McIntosh )talk about some one who has exposed me to so much in the world of art and business I owe so much to this great friend of mine. Probably the most talented artist I will ever know this kid has mad style which he got from me haha. have I mentioned dude has a clothing line YEAH FRESH KAUFEE you betta ask somebody ! Im positive you'll be hearing more about him on this blog as well as news stands across the globe.

CURTIS(Kenneth Curtis) .the definition of a best friend and a force to be reckoned with as far as poetry is concerned this boy has skill and will be waking up the literature world soon with his up coming book yes you red correctly BOOK. we don't play . curtis has pushed me and challenged me and much of the poet you see before you today is because of this guy .

KAT(Katherine Salvatierra) is definitely my sister we were just split at birth and some how she ended up in New York... we just clicked from the start an amazing writer but the buck doesn't stop there folks sista can sang and yes i said sang. Bless with her vocal capability she makes music her own and trust me she owns it. she is fierce and caring all at the same time and did i mention she can sing..?
